Wool Pellets - Flower Bed or Garden Bed Size Package - 1 or 2 KG
You can use 1 KG of wool pellets as a soil amendment for a garden or flower bed that is approximately 25 square feet.
Wool pellets can be used as mulch or incorporated into the soil and are only applied once a year. They break down slowly, adding slow-release carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium with no dangerous run-off while also reducing the need to water by 20-40%! Wool pellets absorb rainfall like a sponge, protecting young plants from drowning in a heavy downpour. They also hold onto atmospheric moisture, releasing it when conditions turn dry, reducing the need to water and protecting plant roots. They would be an ideal addition to any gardener’s drought contingency plan! Wool pellets keep the soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the fall, extending our growing season. They add aeration to the soil, reducing slugs and other pests.
By using wool in our gardens as opposed to chemical fertilizers and pesticides, we would not be reliant on foreign suppliers for the ingredients needed to create these chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
If incorporated into the soil, wool pellets will fully decompose in approximately 3 months.
If used as a mulch on top of the soil around the stems of plants, they will fully decompose in about one year's time.
The high heat used in the creation of wool pellets kills any weed seeds that may have been stuck to the wool, ensuring that there is no weed transfer from the pellets into your garden. They received the stamp of approval from the PEI Invasive Species Council!
Weather permitting, wool pellets will be available for sale in April, 2025.
