The Wonders of Weaving Workshop at the Glenaladale Festival (Registration Closed)
Registration is now closed.
We are thrilled to be offering "The Wonders of Weaving" workshop in conjunction with The Glenaladale Festival, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the Scottish settlers to Prince Edward Island. These early settlers grew flax and raised sheep in order to weave the needed linen and woollen goods for their homes and their clothing. Today's weaving looms may be constructed of slightly more modern materials but the weaving techniques remain exactly the same as they were 250 years ago.
This 2-day workshop starts at 10 a.m. and wraps at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26th and Monday, June 27th. In the workshop, you will learn how to calculate how much yarn you will need for a finished project. You’ll wind a warp and dress the loom by sleying the reed and threading the heddles. Beaming your warp involves winding your warp threads onto the loom. You’ll learn how to properly wind a bobbin for smooth weaving, and how to weave 3 patterns (tabby, balanced twill and herringbone). Finally, you will take your sampler off the loom and learn how to finish the ends by either twisting the fringe or tying off the fringe.
All materials are included in the price. At the end of the day on Monday, both the table top looms and a "Weaver's Package" will be available for sale. The "Weaver's Package" includes:
- 15 3/4" 4 shaft folding table top loom
- 12 bobbins
- boat shuttle
- raddle
