Give Knit Pickers a browse when doing your Christmas shopping. I've seen the garments she makes. They're amazing. I will absolutely be ordering from her this summer. This is someone who has a true passion for what she does. Ask her a question and she lights up explaining this and that about the wool, where it comes from, the sheep and so on. That's what I like, and who I will be doing some Christmas shopping with."
My daughter Hannah did the loom knitting class with you this past summer and has since made many beautiful scarves. She is giving a loom to her Aunt for her bday and is so excited to teach her! Thank you for giving Hannah a love of knitting!
I signed up for the loom knitting class not quite knowing what it was, though I am a weaver. We were each given a wooden loom and taught to "knit" a scarf using several different "stitches." it's a delightful loom to use, made in PEI of course. I plan on using it to teach my granddaughter to knit when she is a bit older. Thank you for your kind hospitality and a wonderful class.
Such a cute little shop and so many different yarns to choose from! The yarns come from all over Canada and come in a variety of colours, materials, sizes and price points!! I seen yarn made from merino wool and alpaca wool!! So many types to choose from!! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted, but I ended up choosing these! Both are made out of Merino wool, and I cannot wait to create with these beauties 😍!! 💚🧡 Knit Pickers also has a YouTube channel where they have beginner levelled knitting tutorials all the way to advanced tutorials! Simply search up Knit Pickers PEI 2 on YouTube to find them 🥰
Since this photo was taken I have knit over 60 pairs of socks and with the confidence I got on double pointed needles I can now make hats and stuffed toys and mittens too! Thank Knit Pickers PEI for helping me expand my knitting horizons - it’s opened a whole new world to me and I will never forget it and I’m grateful.
What a lovely shop! Margaret is so friendly and very helpful about everything in the store. I love that she tries to keep the items she sells in her store made in PEI as possible. I wish We lived closer!
If you like yarn, knitting, or want to explore knitting, a class with Margaret will be a fun addition to your trip to PEI. I took two of her classes, Looms, lambs, and lobsters as well as Lavender and Lace. Enjoyed both of the classes, the first with 6 other people, the lace class on my own (late in the season). I enjoyed the lobster lunch on the water and the farm visit to Lavender/Honey Wine Farms was fascinating. The owner showed me different areas of planting including the plantings of small trees for a heritage apple orchard and explained how the lambs and 2 cows fertilize and graze between the lines of plantings to enrich the soil and help with planting of even more grasses and wildflowers.
My sister and I had a wonderful time- learning to loom knit with Margaret, who has an upbeat personality, a great sense of humor, is a gifted teacher, and so knowledgeable. From there we went to the sheep farm where we learned about artisan cheese making and had a taste of the cheese made from sheeps milk. I loved the blue cheese, while my sister couldn't stop nibbling on the "gluten-free grilled cheese" cheese. We had to go back with our cooler to purchase cheese to bring home. From there we proceeded to the lobster part of our experience, we really enjoyed or lunch as well as the beautiful scenery. But best of all we enjoyed the Island people we met during our tour, truly kind and sincere people who love what they do and share with others. Thank you!
My daughter (age 7) and I spent a few lovely hours with Margaret in her home in Mayfield last week. We did the "looms and lamb" option and were amazed and proud that we left with a new skill and a new scarf! We got a great start with Margaret, and my daughter finished her scarf in the car on the way home. Margaret was patient and kind and relaxed - plus the visit to the sheep farm + cheese shop was icing on the cake.
Our family of 6 participated in the knitting workshop, including the tour of the nearby farm afterwards.
We had a wonderful experience with Margaret, who makes everyone feel very comfortable during the 2+ hour knitting workshop. We all came away with wool knit scarves (well.. papa finished his back at the cottage).. and the ability to do more at home!
Margaret is full of stories, it is wonderful chatting with her during the workshop. This really helped to make our holiday very PEI.
The visit to the nearby farm rounded out the experience, and we brought back some excellent cheese for grilling that evening.
Much thanks for this, it really was special, and the kids will remember it for a long time.
We signed up for a workshop before we arrived on vacation. It surpassed my expectations! We met a lovely group of people, which included a couple of kids, and Margaret was a delightful teacher. Time flew by so quickly, but it was one of our favorite things about our whole vacation!
I signed up for a workshop during a recent trip to PEI and after years of wanting to learn how to knit I am now able to loom knit. Margaret is an amazing teacher and her passion is contagious. I can't wait to use what I learned to create knitted projects. I attended the workshop with a 10 year old who couldn't stop smiling for hours after the class and knit every second she could on the drive back to Charlottetown.
My friend and I randomly stopped here while driving through on a road trip, having no idea it would be one of the highlights of our entire trip. The owner was actually knitting when we came in and explained the story on many of the pieces in the shop. Unlike some of the other stores on PEI where they source the sweaters, and other products and then resell them in a fancy setting, this was a simple, authentic experience packed with made on PEI products.
Margaret is a great teacher and made this such a fun experience! She taught us to loom knit, made us delicious banana nut bread, shared interesting stories about life on the island, and gave recommendations for nearby restaurants. Plan to spend time here, whether you're interested in knitting or just want to experience a few hours with a truely kindred spirit.
Stopped by Knit Pickers while we were traveling through PEI and I am so glad we did. The owner is so friendly and helpful. We had great conversation and she even showed us how to loom knit. She has lots of items for sale and is a must do for any knitting lovers!
I absolutely LOVED my visit at Knit Pickers!!! There are so many beautiful knitted creations for sale, I just can't get enough of them. Margaret is a very knowledgeable knitter and is open to teaching those who wish to learn more about the knitting world. I will definitely be returning here when I stop in PEI again ;D
Whenever, we venture to Cavendish pretending to be tourists, I always pick one souvenir that I buy myself. This year I stopped into this small studio and learned to loom knit. The cost of the workshop included a wooden loom (made on PEI) and enough yarn to make a scarf. It was so simple, my niece was able to teach my 8-year-old daughter who is now making scarves for everyone on her Christmas list! This little place is a must-see for anyone wanting a hands-on experience or if you don't want to make it yourself, you can pick up lots of made on PEI gifts.
