Wool Pellets for your Garden - Coming in 2024!
What are wool pellets? They are created from “waste wool” – wool from the bellies, rumps and necks of sheep that would not otherwise be spun into yarn, or wool from mill waste or that simply does not have a market and would otherwise end up in landfill.
Wool pellets are an eco-friendly replacement for chemical fertilizers. They add aeration to the soil, reduce slugs and other pests, add slow-release carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium with no dangerous run-off, while also reducing the need to water by 20-40%!
Wool pellets can also be used as a mulch. Wildfires were rampant in 2023. Fire marshals are recommending against the use of wood chips as a mulch in gardens close to your home. Wool is the most flame-resistant of all natural fibres. It doesn’t easily ignite and will often self-extinguish, making wool pellets an ideal mulch replacement for wood chips.
